The Tamara Foundation has been connected with Young Life of Canada for several years as directors, family members who have developed key relationships with Young Life staff members, and as attendees of Young Life Summer Camp. The Tamara Foundation very much appreciates the many ways in which Young Life of Canada has impacted their family and other young people across Canada, making it a pleasure to work with them!
The Tamara Foundation works with Young Life Canada to provide scholarships to their summer and winter camps located in British Columbia and Ontario. Scholarships are offered explicitly for young women who come from families that live just above or below the poverty line in Canada and who cannot afford to send their daughters to camp.
The heart of Young Life is caring for teens in the trenches of adolescence; building relationships with them, many of whom are lost, lonely & desperate to be loved, which sadly and often leads to trouble. Our motive is God’s love and the opportunity for teens to understand a life-changing friendship with Jesus Christ, but regardless of how teens choose to respond to that message, we care for them with no strings attached. With the breakdown of marriages and financial pressures on many families today, a partnership with the Tamara Foundation has been a godsend to our mission to enable us to send girls from single-parent families to Young Life camps for many summers. It is always a privilege to invest in these ‘at risk’ teens and tell them someone has generously paid their way to camp – we are grateful for the Tamara Foundation.
Mike Manning – VP Development, Young Life of Canada
For those of us who have attended a summer camp, we know how invaluable it can be in developing confidence, self-esteem, and relationships that will last a lifetime. Summer camp is a valuable experience in a teenager’s life, and we are so privileged to be able to help underprivileged young women be able to experience it.
Since 2014, we have been able to provide, on average, a grant of $3,000 per year. We have contributed up to $15,500 as of 2018.
Take a few minutes to watch the video below to see just how wonderful this experience has been for Ellie, who was able to attend.
